In addition to his work as an actor and writer, Kerry is also an accomplished and experienced Director and Producer, of stage, film and television productions. He also has taught many Master Classes on the University level while presenting his play in professional engagements as a Guest Artist throughout the United States. Acting as the Director of his own written work, including most of the productions of THE WILDE SPIRIT performed throughout the United States, he also directed (and acted in) his first published one-act play, BUFFALO HEAD NICKELS, both in its original high school production in Idaho, and later in its first University presentation at BYU. |
Ashton also directed several television adaptations of both of these works, including the local PBS affiliate television production of BUFFALO HEAD NICKELS, at KTLE-TV in Pocatello, Idaho, as well as the televised version of the Provincetown production of THE WILDE SPIRIT, broadcast thru all of New England in 1990.
Additionally, Ashton directed and staged two of his early plays, THE SCRAPBOOK and CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, at the Mormon Festival of Arts in Utah during two consecutive years, with each play winning the Mormon Festival of Arts Awards in Playwriting.
As the producer of his own work, including producing the Off-Broadway production of THE WIlDE SPIRIT in New York City in 1996, he also produced, directed and starred in the play's three successful seasons at Provincetown, MA, where the show became the longest running-play in Cape Cod History. He also mounted successful productions of the show in Los Angeles at Theatre Rapport, and in many other venues throughout the US.
Among some of the major works that Kerry has directed, include a production of Francis Poulenc's opera, DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES as well as a highly successful and critically-acclaimed production of Maxim Gorky's THE LOWER DEPTHS, both produced in Utah. He also produced and directed a successful production of PRIVATE LIVES, in Pasadena, CA, at the Jester's Playhouse, among many other theatrical presentations in many areas of the country.
